About Estelle

My Name is Estelle Panagakos and I love Vero Beach!

I love the people, the pace of life, and of course the ocean and beach.

My Vero Beach roots go back over four decades. I moved here when I was 28 and lived in a condo at Villamar. My first job was as a probation officer for the Florida State Corrections Department. (I received a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Rollins College.)

From there I moved into elementary education, beginning as a substitute teacher in the Indian River County School District.

When my daughter reached school age, I opted to spend the school year with my parents so they could help watch my daughter while I taught elementary school (I am a single mother). For all the school holidays and for three months each summer we sped down 95 (literally and figuratively) to be back in Vero. As far as I was concerned, Vero Beach was, and is, home.

I returned to Vero Beach after my daughter left for college.  I taught fourth grade at Fellsmere Elementary School and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) at Indian River Community College. After that I spent several years going between Vero Beach and helping take care of my mother, who I eventually convinced to move to Florida.

Almost two years ago I bought a small house near the beach and am loving life.
Being part of a great community for so long made me think how I could give something back. Serving on the Council would allow me to fight to continue making Vero our slice of paradise. Vero exudes small town charm  but the reality is that we need limited but critical growth to continue to improve our community.
Please vote for me November 5.
I’d love to hear from you. Write me at
